Sooner or later, everyone moves out of their home. Ah! The new-found freedom, the extra space, the late night parties with the police get called out. Those are the days. But there's one thing about moving out that isn't quote so cool... DOING YOUR OWN HOOVERING...
But fear not. This tiresome task need never be undertaken by the newbie bachelor. The gadget gods have shined upon us with a robotic alternative. No need for all that crawling around on your hands and knees with the vacuum cleaner, hoovering up the remnants of last night's party. Enter the Black & Decker RV500 Zoombot Remote-Control Vacuum. Never mind the jargon, what's this thing do? Well old Zoombot is a handy little fella. It's a robotic invention aimed at doing one house work task only: sweeping your floors. It doesn't look much like a robot, or even a vacuum cleaner for that matter, but take it from us - it does the dirty work - and it does it very well. You literally place the RV500 on the floor and, not totally unlike that BigTrak toy you got for Christmas when you were eight, it zooms around on it's own accord sucking merrily away until your home is clean. The great thing is that it doesn't need you to stress your brain out and pre-program this household robot. With it's built in intelligence system and it's touch sensitive bumper, the rv 500 will quite happily hoover away without you telling it to make sure it does that bit under the table. What's more, unlike your mum continually getting in the way of your TV and asking you to lift your feet up as she noisily hoovers under them, Black & Decker's hoovering robot is almost completely soundless. It's got a built-in silencer which means that it won't make a noise when your favourite soap is on TV. The only downside is that, like that chink in the Dalek plan for world domination, the stairs in your home will give it some problems. (I can hear those in a 1 floor flat cheering and sneering at the rest of us). No doubt someone WILL invent a robo vacuum sooner or later that loves steps, but the RV500 doesn't like them. But it won't take a suicidal lemming leap down them either. For around 99 US dollars (55 UK pounds) this isn't cheap but it's not exactly one of those gadgets that's only available to those with more money than sense. It's got a strong practical use, and it actually WILL keep your floor very clean. And apart from doing the job that we don't really want to be bothered with, it's way too cool to watch this thing go about it's daily job. So the RV500 gets our thumbs up big time.
