There's a great old robot movie called Westworld (1973) that I highly recommend hiring out if you get the chance. In it, robots are used to create a theme park where rich voyeurs can act out their every fantasy. Of course it wouldn't be much of a plot if the robots didn't malfunction and try to kill everyone half way through.
Fortunately for us, in the real world, robots don't just flip out and decide to off people willy nilly. And they don't do daft things like slam stupidly into walls or take a running leap down your stairs. (Where as humans fear things like spiders and flying, robots are a bit touchy about things like stairs). Looking more like a contestant on Robot Wars, the e Vac is Sharper Image's entry into the robo-carpet cleaner home gadgets market. And this little robot has a good deal intelligence built in to it. It can detect when it's about to meet a wall for example and chance course. It can also sense when it's at the top of a set of stairs, and take appropriate action. And despite spending it's life cleaning your floors, it's not about to rebel and lock you in a cupboard somewhere while it chops the dog into sausages. In fact, this little robotic vacuum rather likes it's job. If you're into household gadgetry, then this is one of those things you might want to put on your Christmas list. What about corners? This is one of the most common questions that people ask about robot vacuum cleaners. After all, you don't just want a few clean patches here and there, and the rest of the carpet looking a state. Fear not. The E vac is quite capable of cleaning under, around and in every conceivable space on the average floor or carpet. You can set this little fella on automatic vacuum mode, or sit and drive it around with the remote control that comes bundled with it. Clearly this is a hoover for a gadget freak!
