Aquabot - the Robotic Pool Cleaner

In the TV series, Thunderbirds, it was always exciting seeing which of the vehicles were going to be used during the show. There was a really cool underwater one called Thunderbird 4, which was a bit like a submarine. Sadly, it never got our that much.

Well, the robot world is a bit like this. There are many different kinds of robots, and some of them actually travel underwater. So, I hear you cry, why on god's green earth would a robot ever need to go under the water? Well how about if you could get a robotic pool cleaner to do the dirty work of keeping your swimming pool clean?

Yep, there's actually such an invention. It's produced by a company called AquaJet and it's called the 'Aquabot'. (Even the name sounds like it should be on a sci fi movie). As you can see from the photo, Aquabot isn't going to win any awards for the most stylish looking robotic creation in the world. But when it comes to cleaning pools, he's your man.

The truth is that most of the real robots out there are kinda goofy-looking and, well... functional. And as a robotic pool cleaner spends most of his time deep under the blue yonder, it was deemed that fancy paneling and modeling weren't really that important.

So what can Aquabot do? Is he any good at the job of pool cleaning? Actually, he's very good at his job and takes a lot of pride in it. You literally just plonk this thing in your swimming pool and forget about it. It works a lot like the robot vacuum cleaners in that it just drives around, sucking up the dirt and storing it away until you remove the bag.

The robot actually sucks it's way through a staggering 4800 gallons of water per hour so it's capable of keeping even a large-sized swimming pool very clean. The only draw back is that you'll have to tell your regular pool guy that he's been replaced by a robotic pool cleaner. Who needs Thunderbird 4 when you've got an Aquabot?
