For most of us, the idea of having a mechanical friend who does all our hard work for us might sound far fetched. But is it really that unrealistic? Technology is moving at the speed of light, and advanced robotics are becoming cheaper each day. Maybe those old sci-fi movies with the then pure fantasy household robots might not be quite to far into our futures. And how cool would it be? Most of us have a hard time fitting in our work as well as those household chores we have to do continually. Who wants to come in from a hard slog at the office and then have to start on the house work? This is where robots of the future will come in most useful. They'll free up more of our time. We could be relaxing with friends while our army of home robotic workers take care of things there. Perhaps we won't literally have a humanoid metal servant running around in an apron, dusting, cleaning and vacuuming. It's more likely in future we'll have specific robots to do specific jobs around the home. Just as we have toasters, kettles and other household inventions at the moment to fulfil certain specific tasks. Just look at some of the Robot Vacuum cleaners that are already on the market. They don't look much like what sci fi writers of the 60s might have had us believe we'd have running around our homes by now, but they're household robots all the same. And they work. In the future, robots will look pretty ordinary. Perhaps so much so we won't even notice they're there. One thing is for certain - in our lifetimes, we're going to see some pretty amazing robot technology in the future. And it's highly likely that we'll all have at least one kind of robotic helper doing our dirty work for us by then. |
