My earliest memories of wrestling were watching two hairy, overweight middle aged men huffing and puffing as they hurled each other around a ring. At the time it seemed exciting, it seemed real. But these days even the latest WWF / WWE type of wrestling just doesn't do it for me. Fortunately, there's something far more exciting to satisfy my lust for a good scrap these days. I've discovered the joy of - Sumo Robot Wrestling! Sumo Robot is the latest in a line of make your own battle robots. And has to be one of the coolest-looking robot kits we've had to play with yet. He's got a bit of a retro feel going on - and is reminiscent of perhaps a robot from a 60's sci-fi show, or even the old Thunderbirds series.
One good thing that robot enthusiasts will appreciate with SumoBot is that it doesn't require you to solder a single connection during construction. This is a completely non-soldering robot kit. While it's still an enjoyable challenge to cobble this tin ribs together, you won't need to have passed degree level robotic engineering to do it. Two bots are better than one. Although the Sumo Robot kits are sold individually, and there is fun to be had with it as a single robot, it is a hell of a lot more fun to have more than one. Maybe you can either get a friend to buy one, or you could get them as a couple of gifts for your children. The real magic happens when you've got your own little battle robot assembled and it's time to face off against an opponent. Handbags at dawn: An infra red sensor built into your robotic sum warrior alerts it to the presence of another robot. And a robot's godda do what a robots godda do. Once they've spotted each other it's time for the leather to fly. Or, in this case, the microchips and plastic. But don't worry, it's not like a game of conkers. These little robots can take quite a bit of punishment! They're tough little battlebots and they're designed to take it. The fights consist of a lot of pushing and battling for superiority. You'll get a kick out of watching your Sumobots battling it out. But like all fights, just like in the movie Highlander, there can be only one. It really is a joy to watch 2 of these robots hammering it out. Why wasn't science at school this much fun? A healthy combination of violence and technology. Who could ask for more?
